since i was a child, i have always liked putting a pen to paper with a new idea... cartoons, stories, whatever came to mind. after attending elmhurst college for a year - considering a major in interdisciplinary communications - i realized that my interests lied elsewhere. so i did what any other impulsive college kid does; i transferred to art school.
enrolling at the illinois institute of art in schaumburg proved to be very taxing on my mind - and my wallet. rekindling a childhood pleasure, i enrolled in the game art & design program. the decision had its rewards: while learning industry standard software applications & traditional design skills, i also had the opportunity to surround myself with some of the most creative & talented people i have ever met in my life. even then i realized the importance of shared learning, collaboration, & empowerment, trading secrets & skills with my peers.
after graduation, i decided to stay with the financial company i had been working for instead of jumping into the video game industry. i took advantage of my creative skills whenever possible, whether it was using programming knowledge for a home grown database, creating a logo & mission statement for a new group, or coming up with a monthly newsletter complete with graphics & interactive links.
working with the company allowed me to focus on my project management skills, giving me a deadly skill set to add to my artistic repertoire. having a project management background - effective communication, building relationships, planning & execution - would open me up to opportunities across multiple industries. still, my thirst for digital arts & media was scratching at my brain. i realized that my passion for the digital arts was much more simple - work with people to come up with something really, fricking cool.
today, i am working on several side projects, like freelance web design, graphic t-shirt design, & photo & video editing. while continuing to hone my business skills at my day job, my personal goals are really simple: work with people & local businesses to come up with creative design & marketing solutions. i am always willing to take on a new challenge, so if you have any project proposals, suggestions, or even comments about my website, email me at fjcann@gmail.com. otherwise, enjoy my site & help keep creativity alive in the chi... you will be hearing more about me soon...
